MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday reminded all public schools to conduct unannounced fire and earthquake drills twice a month.

The department issued the reminder in observance of Fire Prevention Month this March, saying the conduct of drills every first and third week of the month is mandated under DepEd Order No. 053, s. 2022.

“DepEd reminds all public to ensure the conduct of unannounced fire and earthquake drills every first and third week of the month,” it said in a statement.

Additionally, state and local universities and colleges (SUCs/LUCs), community learning centers, and private schools are encouraged to follow the DO’s requirements.

“Together, let us keep our learners, personnel, and schools safe from the harms of fire, earthquakes, and other calamities through effective preparation and simulation exercises,” DepEd said. – Kimberly D. Albaño, intern
