Ex-Interior spox Malaya now the Nat’l Security assistant director general

MANILA, Philippines — Former Interior spokesperson Jonathan Malaya is now the National Security Council (NSC) assistant director general, the council announced on Wednesday.

In a statement, the NSC said they received word of Malaya’s appointment by President Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’ Marcos Jr. from Malacañang on Tuesday.

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año welcomed Malaya’s appointment.

“I worked closely with him in the DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) for five years,” Año, who is the former DILG chief in the previous administration, said.

“His 25-year experience in the public service as well as his proven dedication and commitment to the national interest will serve this agency and the country well,’’ Año added.

Malaya served in nine different government agencies in the last 25 years, taking on pertinent roles including being an assistant secretary in the Department of Education, the Office of the President, and the Office of the Solicitor General.

He also previously worked in the Supreme Court and in both chambers of Congress.
