PCG continues cleanup in Oriental Mindoro after oil spill

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard on Wednesday continued its cleanup efforts in Oriental Mindoro following the oil spill in the waters of the said province.

The PCG installed an oil spill boom as well as conducted containment and recovery operations within the vicinity waters of Naujan town, the area believed to be the location of the vessel.

Residents and volunteers continued the cleanup in Barangay Tinogboc in Antique’s Caluya municipality, where “a dead squid” was found.

The PCG said 92 sacks of oiled debris, sea grasses, and used oil absorbent pads were collected during the coastal clean-up at Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay Buhay na Tubig as of Tuesday.

The initiatives were part of the ongoing oil spill response operations after MT Princess Empress, with approximately 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil submerged last February 28.
