MANILA, Philippines — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has urged the public to join Thursday’s nationwide earthquake drill.
In a Facebook post, the OCD said the earthquake drill would be held at 2:00 pm on March 9.
Participants are encouraged to duck, cover, and hold on Thursday afternoon.
The quarterly earthquake drill is part of the country’s preparation for a massive earthquake in Metro Manila dubbed “The Big One.”
The so-called Big One — or a magnitude 7.2 tremor hitting Metro Manila — would lead to at least 52,000 deaths and 500,000 injuries, according to the study by risk assessment and consultancy firm PSA Philippines Consultancy Inc. published in 2019.
