1 killed, another hurt in QC motorcycle crash

MANILA, Philippines – A man was killed while his riding companion ended up hurt after their motorcycle careened out of control right on the curve of a tunnel Sunday afternoon in Quezon City.

The victim, Jonathan Reynon, 38, suffered severe head injuries as he did not wear a safety helmet during his fatal last ride.

Traffic investigator Jeanmar Bumanlag said the victim, a resident of Santolan, Pasig City, died after the mishap which happened at past 1 p.m. inside the Katipunan Ave. tunnel in Barangay Blue Ridge.

At the time of the incident, the victims were aboard the motorcycle on the northbound lane of the Katipunan Ave. tunnel, which features a curve just after the Libis area.

The motorcycle’s driver, Reymer Anthony Casao, 26 of Pasay City, also suffered injuries but survived as he was the only one who wore a helmet.

At that time, Casao was driving his unregistered motorcycle with Reynon as a back rider.

The victims were rounding the curve on the northbound lane but the motorcycle went out of control.

This threw the two men off the motorcycle, who both landed badly on the concrete road.

Rescuers from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority rushed the two victims to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center but Reynon did not make it alive.
