5 Chinese nationals arrested for illegal detention

MANILA, Philippines — Five Chinese nationals were nabbed for alleged illegal detention of unidentified male victim, the Southern Police District (SPD) reported on Monday.

According to the SPD, the suspects were arrested on Sunday at Okada Resort, New Seaside Drive, Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.

The suspects were identified as Ding Fei, 24 years old, and Jiang Lincheng, 25, both restaurant workers; Wu Yazhou, 30, supermarket worker; Li Siyuan, 32; and Chen Liqiang, 36, businessman.

The authorities from Okada Manila released the closed-circuit television footage over the alleged illegal detention incident involving the Chinese nationals.

The initial probe showed that the victim was detained in Room 15025. The suspects had demanded debt payment of P500,000 in exchange for his release.

However, the victim was unable to make the payment, so he was held against his will, the police said.

The SPD narrated that the victim asked for help from the nearby security guards as he was being carried by the suspects toward the exit to board a vehicle, which led to the victim’s rescue and the apprehension of the suspects. – Meralyn Melitante, trainee
