A joint search and rescue operation was immediately conducted by the Pagudpud local police, Philippine Marines, Philippine Coast Guard, and Pagudpud disaster risk reduction and management office.

But the strong currents pulled Datiles and three others toward the middle of the sea. Except for Datiles, the three others were rescued, authorities said.
