MANILA, Philippines — After the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) revealed another fraternity-related death in Cebu, the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO 7) said on Friday that it has found witnesses and that charges may be filed “anytime.”

While discussing the death of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig due to hazing, PAO Chief Persida Acosta said that 20-year-old Ronnel M. Baguio, a marine engineering student in Cebu, also may have died due to fraternity-related violence.

“Investigators have located witnesses already who, accordingly, identified the suspects and who are willing to execute affidavits. Anytime very soon, charges will be filed against the perpetrators,” said the PRO7 in a statement.

FEATURED STORIES

According to PRO7, the alleged hazing incident was reported to the Cebu City Police Office last December 19, 2022, and is currently under investigation by the Mambaling Police Station.

The PRO7 vowed thorough supervision of the investigation.

Baguio died in December 2022 after he began vomiting blood and needed hospitalization. Hearing that Baguio was already admitted to the hospital, his mother went to see him, but he had already died. She saw that his legs were full of wounds.

He had reportedly joined the Tau Gamma Phi, the sane fraternity that Salilig was a part of.
