MANILA, Philippines — One of the suspects who allegedly buried hazing victim and Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig surrendered to authorities on Thursday.
Daniel Perry, 23, also a student of Adamson, surrendered to Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla at the Office of the Governor in Trece Martires City, the Philippine National Police said in its report.
Perry was turned over to Cavite Police Provincial Office.
Remulla said the suspect surrendered for fear for his life.
“Yung bata ay natatakot sa panganib sa buhay niya, dahil lumaki na nang lumaki ang insidente, tapos nakonsensya na din,” Remulla told reporters.
(The kid feared for his life because the incident got out of hand, then he felt guilty.)
Remulla said Perry was among the companions who later buried the remains of Salilig.
“Kasama daw siya sa paghatid … tapos kasama din siya sa naglibing,” he also said.
(He said he is one of the companions and those who buried him.)
Six Tau Gamma Phi fraternity members surrendered to Biñan City, Laguna police on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Salilig reportedly died after undergoing hazing during the welcoming rites of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity.
A witness had earlier told the police that Salilig received at least 70 paddle hits.
He died on Saturday, Feb. 18, the same day he went missing. He was last seen on his way to Laguna for the initiation, according to the police.
