Oriental Mindoro oil spill reaches shore

 

An oil tanker carrying some 800,000 liters of industrial fuel oil half-submerged off the waters of Balingawan Point in Naujan town in Oriental Mindoro early Tuesday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

MANILA, Philippines — The oil spill in the waters of Oriental Mindoro has reached the shores of Barangay Buhay in Pola town on Thursday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)

“The Philippine Coast Guard has observed oil spill stranding along the shoreline of Barangay Buhay na Tubig in Pola, Oriental Mindoro, today, 02 March 2023,” the PCG said in a statement.

PCG said the local government and other concerned agencies have been informed 0f the development and possible shoreline clean up.

The oil tanker  MT Princess Empress carrying 800,000 liters of fuel encountered engine trouble and rough seas on Tuesday and eventually sank Wednesday off Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

The PCG deployed BRP Melchora Aquino and BRP Habagat for surveillance while the oil tanker’s company also deployed a tugboat to contain oil spill.
