Free water supply for fire victims

/ 07:09 AM April 09, 2012

THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is giving free water to the victims of the fire that left more than 400 families homeless in barangay Suba, Cebu City last March 9.

Two communal faucets were installed that the victims can use for free for one month. But MCWD may extend it for another month if the city government will ask it.

Israel Ortiz, officer-in-charge of the Service Connection Installation Department, said that MCWD always provides free water to victims of a big fire within its franchise area as part of its corporate social responsibility. MCWD is a government-owned and controlled corporation.

Last March 9, an early morning fire gutted 153 houses mostly made of light materials. The fire in barangay Suba was the biggest to hit Cebu City during Fire Prevention Month.
