Chinese yields P3.7-M fake, smuggled cigarettes in Laguna

LUCENA CITY — Police arrested a Chinese national Wednesday night in a buy-bust operation in San Pablo City in Laguna province and seized more than P3.7 million worth of alleged fake and smuggled cigarettes.
Xinglong Zhang, 34, was collared at 11:40 p.m. after he sold P50,000 worth of allegedly fake and smuggled cigarettes to an undercover cop in a transaction in Barangay Del Remedios, the Police Region 4A police said in a report Thursday (March 3).
The authorities seized 184 boxes of assorted fake and smuggled cigarettes worth P3,741,000. The suspect also yielded P205,000 cash money.
The police are conducting further investigations.
The suspect was detained and is facing the corresponding criminal charges.
