Pagasa: Cloudy Thursday with a chance of rain in several areas
MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in eight areas across the country on Thursday due to two weather systems, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Cagayan Valley, the Bicol region, Aurora, Quezon and Oriental Mindoro will be affected by the northeast monsoon or “amihan”while the shear line will prevail in the Caraga region in Moindanao, Southern Leyte,and Davao Oriental.
“Patuloy na umiiral ang northeast monsoon or amihan dito sa bahagi ng Luzon at ngayong araw, makakaranas pa rin ng maulap na kalangitan at pag-ulan dulot nitong amihan, at mayroon din mararansan na kalat-kalat na pag-ulan, pagkidlat at pagkulog ang ilang bahagi ng Visayas, dulot naman ng shear line,” Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.
(The northeast monsoon or amihan continues to prevail here in Luzon. Today, cloudy skies and rain will prevail due to the northeast monsoon. Scattered rain showers lightning and thunder are also expected in several parts of Visayas due to the shear line.)
Pagasa likewise raised gale warnings over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon including Polillo Islands, Ilocos Norte, ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, Marinduque, Romblon, western coast of Palawan and Kalayaan Islands, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Burias Island, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and the easter coasts of Siargao and Bucas Grande Island.
Rough to very rough sea conditions (2.8 to 4.5 meter waves) are expected the said areas.
Fishermen and those with small vessels in affected areas are advised against setting sail.
