Sea vessels barred from sailing in Quezon due to gale warning
LUCENA CITY – All sea travels in Quezon province were suspended on Monday (Feb. 27) due to a gale warning over the eastern seaboards of Luzon brought by the strong northeast monsoon locally known as “amihan.”
Quezon Gov. Angelina Tan, citing information from the provincial disaster management office, announced that all trips from Atimonan and Gumaca ports going to Alabat, Perez and Quezon towns on Alabat island were temporarily suspended starting at 7 a.m.
From Mauban port, all sea vessels going to Cagbalete island were also canceled, as were all trips from Real port to Polillo and Jomalig islands and vice versa.
On Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) hoisted strong gale warnings over Quezon and Polillo Island.
“Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” the state weather bureau warned.
