Two barangay (village) watchmen were stabbed and wounded while they were trying to help settle a family dispute in Mandaluyong City on Saturday night.
Police said Barangay Addition Hills tanod (watchmen) Mario Berana and
Carlito Broces sustained multiple stab wounds and were taken to Mandaluyong Medical Center where they remain confined.
Senior Police Officer 4 Rey Suarez of the Mandaluyong police said that the men who attacked the victims—Jerry Posadas, 59; and his son Marvin, 23—were immediately arrested.
A third man identified as Manny Posadas was able to escape and was being sought by the police.
The stabbing happened around 9 p.m. on Saturday at Block 21 in Welfareville
Compound, Barangay Addition Hills.
Suarez said the victims went to the house of the Posadas family after receiving a call about a dispute in the neighborhood, which had turned violent.
“Witnesses said the Posadas men lunged [at] the watchmen who had just arrived at the scene and repeatedly stabbed them with knives,” he told the Inquirer on the phone.
The police, however, failed to recover the knives used in the attack.
Suarez said that investigators were still trying to determine who among the members of the Posadas family stabbed the two watchmen.
Also still being determined was the reason for the dispute, which led the victims to intervene.
He noted, however, that when the watchmen arrived at the scene, the three members of the Posadas family were “too drunk” to be easily pacified by lawmen.
