Village watchman shot dead in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines—A member of a Barangay Public Safety Office (BPSO), whose daytime job was that of a tricycle driver, was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in barangay (village) Dona Aurora in Quezon City on Saturday night, police said.

Police Officer 2 Alvin Quisumbing of the Quezon City Police District homicide section identified the victim as Jimmy Vasquez, 33, a resident of 116 Ramirez St., Dona Aurora.

Qusumbing said the victim was on board his tricycle and traveling near the corner of Luskot street in Barangay Dona Aurora at a round 10:30 p.m. when he was shot. He did not have any passenger.

Police said the victim was shot several times at the back while he was driving his tricycle.

A witness said he saw the suspects approach the victim from behind and fired several shots at the victim without any warning. The witness further said the suspects rode together on a red Honda Wave motorcycle.

Unfortunately the witness failed to get the plate number of the two-wheeled vehicle.

Police said the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in various parts of his body and died on the spot.

The motive of the killing was still being established.

Another BPSO member, in an interview, said the killing of the victim was work-related.

Based on the victim’s wounds, the suspects used a 9mm handgun.

Recovered from the crime scene were three empty cartridges of 9mm bullets.
