Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival prize pot gets boost

A six-year-old child died after he was ran over by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the roadside in Batac City, Ilocos Norte province, police said Friday, Feb. 17.

LAOAG CITY, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. shelled out an additional P1 million to the pool of cash prizes to be given to winners in his home province’sTan-ok ni Ilocano Festival here. 

This was announced by the President’s son, House Senior Deputy Majority Leader Sandro Marcos.

“Nung nalaman niya kung ano ‘yung magiging grand prize, mga cash prizes, sinabi ni Pangulong BBM na magdadagdag pa siya ng isang milyon [pesos] sa ating mga prizes,” the younger Marcos said in his speech.

(When he learned about the grand prize and cash prizes, the President said he will add P1 million more to the prizes.)

In response, the President said he is a “willing victim.”

“Sinubo mo ako doon sa isang milyon. But I’m a willing victim. I’m the willing victim of your generosity,” the older Marcos said, addressing his son. 

During the festival, which is Ilocos Norte’s biggest cultural festival, each of the province’s 23 cities showcased their stories and talents in their respective performances. 

According to the event organizers, the grand prize is P1 million. The first runner-up will get P500,000, second runner-up P300,000 while the next five placers will get P100,000 each.
