MANILA, Philippines — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) on Friday said it is targeting to augment the total number of trainees for construction jobs in the coming years to meet the demand of an expected construction boom due to the government’s national housing program.
Tesda said it is collaborating with the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) — the recognized national industry board for the construction sector in the country — to realize producing 4.4 million construction workers in the next eight years for the flagship housing project of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
“The DHSUD earlier said that they are anticipating a sudden increase in demand for construction workers as Marcos Jr’s. ‘Pambansang Pabahay’ is expected to go full blast in the coming months,” it said in a statement.
“We commit to continue providing construction-related programs and partner with the industries,” it added.
In 2022, Tesda produced a total of 60,223 graduates in the construction sector and certified 76,132 as skilled workers in their respective courses.
Housing Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar had bared the administration’s ambitious plan to build 6 million houses until 2028, or 1 million houses each year until the end of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s six-year term.
