MANILA, Philippines — Maj. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, chief of the National Capital Region Police Office, ordered on Tuesday an investigation and manhunt against two men who shot dead a tourist from New Zealand in Makati City on Sunday.
In a report, Estomo said Nicholas Peter Stacey, 34, and his Filipino partner, Pamela Gaye Villanoza, were walking along Filmore Street in Barangay Palanan when two men on a black motorcycle held them up.
Stacey tried to grab the suspect’s handgun, but the suspect shot him, killing him on the spot.
Police have yet to identify the perpetrators.
Stacey’s body was transferred to a funeral home in Taguig City. His family in Auckland has started raising funds, through Give A Little website, to fly Stacey’s remains home.
His family said Stacey was a well-loved kids’ church leader and worked for 10 years in a nonprofit that rescued children from sexual exploitation.
