GOOD music and serious acting are this year’s feature of the Sugat sa Guadalupe where two singers, a student-dancer, a model and a cook take center stage with a cast of 100 at dawn today.
Msgr. Jose S. Montecillo, parish priest, said his original idea was to use entertainment in the work of evangelization.
Dubai-based singer Cerj Michael will entertain the crowd with his rendition of the prayer, Cristo and Maria. Pia Marie Abejo, a first prize winner in several singing contests, will do a duet with Michael in the Sugat sa Argao.
Former seaman and now restaurant cook Columbus “B-boi” Camposo will mark his 12th year playing the role of Jesus.
SMB model Jean Patatag will play the role of the Virgin Mary in the passion and resurrection act of the play.
For student-dancer She Ira Ranilagao, her role as “Claudia,” the wife of Pontius Pilate, is a transition from her previous role of a Magdalena, a repentant sinner.
“I’m giving back to God the talent He bestowed on me,” Michael said of his participation in the Sugat sa Guadalupe.
Seaman-turned- restaurant cook Camposo said, “I feel sanctified every time I join the presentation and perform my role.”
The sugat, which means “meeting,” is a traditional Easter dawn procession that presents the risen Christ meeting his mother the Virgin Mary.”
As a religious play, “it is aimed at reaching more people and helps them internalize the Word of God,” said Montecillo.
The play is directed by Aljin Abaquita, who with Msgr. Montecillo, also did the Sugat versions for Argao town and barangay Pardo.Contributor Roger Paller
