Davao de Oro earthquake survivors get DSWD cash aid
MANILA, Philippines — Survivors of the magnitude 6 earthquake that struck Davao de Oro last Feb. 1 have received cash aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the agency said on Tuesday.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian led the distribution on Monday, with 1,110 people receiving P3,000 each through the department’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
“My first commitment to you, in the name of our president and the department, is immediate financial assistance. From now until the coming days, we will be paying out to the affected towns,” Gatchalian said in Filipino in his address to the recipients.
While in Davao de Oro, Gatchalian met with local government unit officials to discuss how the DSWD could deliver social welfare programs.
Gatclaian also inspected a local evacuation center and visited DSWD facilities in the area.
