Pagasa: Cloudy Tuesday, rainy in parts of Luzon due to LPA, ‘amihan’

MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and rain are expected in parts of Luzon on Tuesday due to a low-pressure area (LPA) and the northeast monsoon or “amihan”, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Monday afternoon.

Pagasa weather specialist Rhea Torres said the LPA was last spotted some 230 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora but has a slim chance of intensifying into a typhoon.

While it is forecast to swirl away from the country, the LPA is expected to continue to trigger rain over parts of Luzon, particularly the Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol region, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora and Quezon.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is expected to affect the extreme northern parts of Luzon — Batanes and Babuyan Islands — where cloudy skies and rain are forecast.

“Samantala, sa nalalabing bahagi naman ng Luzon magiging maaliwalas ang ating panahon liban na lamang sa mga tiyansa ng mahihinang pagulan o pagambon kasama na ang Metro Manila,” said Torres.

(The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila,  will have fair weather, except for possible isolated rain showers.)

Generally fair weather is also expected in the Visayas and Mindanao with possible rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The state weather bureau raised gale warnings over the seaboards of  Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Aurora, northern coast of Quezon including Polillo Island, Camarines Norte, northern coast Camarines Sur, northern coast Catanduanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, and Zambales.
