MANILA, Philippines — Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla on Monday called a “slap in the face” of law enforcers the separate gun attacks on local officials in Lanao del Sur and Nueva Vizcaya.
Revilla strongly condemned the two “violent incidents” over the weekend.
Vice Mayor Rommel Alameda of Aparri in Cagayan and five others were killed in an ambush in Nueva Vizcaya on Sunday, February 19, while Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. and two others were hurt in a separate attack in his province last Friday, February 17, which also resulted in the death of his four aides.
“Kasuklam-suklam. Karumal-dumal. Wala itong lugar sa isang sibilisadong lipunan. Violent incidents like this continue to create havoc and fear among our people. Kailangan nang matuldukan ng tuluyan ang ganitong mga pangyayari,” he said in a statement.

“This is a slap in the face of our law enforcement instrumentalities,” the senator added.
“The Philippine National Police (PNP) should spare no effort in hunting down the perpetrators and masterminds and immediately bring them to justice. Kailangan ipakita ng pulisya na kaya nilang panatilihan ang kaayusan sa ating bansa,” Revilla also said.

He then urged the PNP to be “proactive in maintaining peace and order, not reactive.”
“You should always be steps ahead to prevent evil people from causing harm to our people. It is high time for you to step up, because every time you fail to act on your mandate, lives are at stake to be lost,” Revilla said.
The senator likewise condoled with the bereaved family of the slain vice mayor and of the others killed in the two separate gun attacks.
