ILOCOS Norte — A six-year-old child died after he was ran over by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the roadside in Batac City, Ilocos Norte province, police said Friday, Feb. 17.
Authorities said that the incident transpired around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday when the victim, who was identified as Jess Casey Padamada of nearby San Nicolas town, went to Batac market with his two siblings, their mother and grandmother.
Padamada and his siblings were left on their improvised tricycle parked in front of the residence of the SUV driver, whom police identified as Mariano Francisco Nalupta III.
Nalupta, who was about to enter his home while driving the SUV, did not notice the child and accidentally hit the victim, who was dragged under the vehicle, police said.
An investigation showed that Padamada was playing on Nalupta’s driveway prior to the incident.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and declared dead on arrival.
Authorities reminded parents to be vigilant and not leave their children unattended in public places, especially along busy roadsides.
