3 cops in Spaniard’s killing surrender

MANILA, Philippines — Three police officers who have been charged with murder for the death of a Spanish national during a drug operation in Siargao in 2020 have surrendered to the authorities, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Wednesday.

The three police officers were identified as Police Capt. Wise Vicente Panuelos, Police Sergeants Ronel Pazo, and Nido Boy Cortes, all members of the Gen. Luna town’s police force.

They were presented to Remulla by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. Diego

Lafuente was killed in Siargao Islands on Jan. 8, 2020, after allegedly firing at the police during a buy-bust operation.

The National Bureau of Investigation filed a complaint against the police officers last year.
