Rainy in Visayas, Mindanao due to LPA — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — One of  two low-pressure areas (LPA) hounding the country is causing rainy weather in the Visayas and Mindanao, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its Wednesday afternoon update, said the LPA inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) was last sighted 925 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao, while the other one was last tracked 1,535 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.

“Itong dalawang sama ng panahon na ating binabantayan sa ngayon ay maliit pa rin ang tsansa na maging bagyo sa mga susunod na araw, ngunit itong LPA sa loob ng ating PAR ay nagdudulot na ng mga pag-ulan at makulimlim na panahon diyan sa Visayas at Mindanao,” Pagasa weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said.

(These two weather systems that we’re monitoring right now have slim chances of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next few days, but the LPA inside the PAR is already causing rainy weather in the Visayas and Mindanao.)

He then noted that rain is likewise expected in most parts of the country on Thursday.

Ordinario said the northeast monsoon or “amihan”, will trigger rain in Luzon, particularly in Cagayan Valley, Aurora, parts of the Bicol region, Quezon and eastern Luzon.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in most parts of Mindanao, while the rest of the country will have generally fair weather, he added.

Pagasa has also hoisted a gale warning over the seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, northern coasts of Quezon and Camarines Sur, and northern and eastern coasts of Polillo Islands, Catanduanes and Northern Samar.
