MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) will be administered anew nationwide for Academic Year 2024-2025  after the same was deferred in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state university announced on Wednesday that the UPCAT will be held on June 3 to 4, 2023 in more than 100 testing sites nationwide.

Applications will open in the first week of March through an online portal.

“All applications are to be done online and applicants need to encode their grades for Grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 in the UPCAT online portal. Though applicants may still be in Grade 11 when they apply, exam takers will encode their grades online only in September 2023 when Grade 11 grades are final and complete,” UP said in a statement.

The premier university added that the official grades of applicants will be requested from their respective schools in September to be verified by its Office of Admissions.

Since 2020–the first year the UPCAT was suspended, the university has admitted students based on their scholastic performance in senior high school.

In September last year, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano urged the UP system to resume conduct of the UPCAT for AY 2023-2024 as he expressed fear that its new selection system may be “killing the dreams” of many of the country’s graduates.
