Neda creates PAP4SCP to promote sustainable practices
MANILA, Philippines – The National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) has formulated the Philippine Action Plan for Sustainable Consumption and Production (PAP4SCP) to direct and promote sustainable behavior and practices across all governmental levels and industries.
The Asian Development Bank also assisted Neda in creating the action plan.
According to NEDA in a statement on Tuesday, PAP4SCP contains programmatic initiatives, such as circular economy strategies, that are intended to uncouple the nation’s economic development from environmental deterioration in the face of the “new normal” brought on by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
It added that to encourage consumers and producers to adopt sustainable strategies and practices, the Action Plan incorporated a comprehensive framework spanning policy, research and development (R&D), innovation, technology, infrastructure investments, and information and education.
The agency explained that PAP4SCP was an outcome of a multi-stakeholder and participatory process carried out under the supervision of the Philippine Council for Sustainable Development.
“Given the cross-cutting scope of the interventions, the operationalization of PAP4SCP follows a whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach, especially in implementing and financing the priority actions, and developing and disseminating innovative and green technologies and circular economy practices across sectors,” said Neda.
