Show love towards PH during Valentine’s Day, Palace urges

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Tuesday encouraged Filipinos to express their love and empathy towards the nation during Valentine’s Day.

On its Facebook page, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) urged Filipinos to take the opportunity to express their gratitude and love to those they cherish.

“Kaisa ang Presidential Communications Office sa pagdiriwang ng Valentine’s Day at hinihikayat ang lahat na kunin ang pagkakataong ito na ipadama sa ating partner, magulang, kapatid, kamag-anak, at mga kaibigan ang pagmamahal, pasasalamat, at ang kahalagahan nila sa ating buhay,” it said.

(The PCO is one with the nation in the celebration of Valentine’s Day and we urge everyone to take the opportunity to let your partners, parents, siblings, relatives, and friends feel love, gratitude, and their importance in our lives.)

It is usually celebrated with the giving of presents, chocolates, jewelry, flowers, and greeting cards to loved ones.

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Valentines, in the form of formal messages, first appeared in the 1500s, and commercially printed cards dedicated to the holiday were being used as early as the 1700s.
