Alleged rebel slain in Camarines Norte town clash

LEGAZPI CITY — An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed on February 11, in an encounter with government troops in Labo town in Camarines Norte province.

In a report on Sunday, Captain Frank Roldan, officer-in-charge of the public affairs office of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, said the 9th Infantry Battalion had a firefight with five NPA rebels in Barangay (village) Canapawan at around 1:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Roldan said before the operation, they received reports from concerned citizens of the presence of armed men in the area.

The unidentified rebel was killed while authorities recovered an M16 rifle with bullets and a magazine.
