MANILA, Philippines — Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo has commended the local government of Negros Occidental’s Victorias City under Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez for advancing the city’s digital transformation.

Lamentillo was a guest at the launching of  “Digital-related Government Programs in the City of Victorias” on January 30 at Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center, where Benitez formally introduced the local government’s ongoing digital programs, including the Sidlak City Digital Network Assets and Project VECTOR.

“I am happy to be here and be part of the launching of the various digital-related programs of the City of Victorias. Noteworthy are the programs under the Sidlak City Digital Network Assets which will streamline government processes, promote ease of doing business, and provide convenient ways for citizens to access e-government services,” she said.

She added that it is important that Victorias City also prioritized Project VECTOR or Victorias Emergency and Crisis Tactical Operation and Response because disaster risk reduction and management systems are crucial in ensuring that years of development are preserved.

Lamentillo also stressed that while digitalizing government processes and services is a huge undertaking, any forward-looking leader would know that it is inevitable and is a worthy investment that will surely lead to better growth opportunities.

“I am certain that the City of Victorias under the leadership of Mayor Javi Benitez has more programs to launch as it treads the path towards being a Smart City. You can be assured that the DICT will be your partner in creating a strong, resilient, and inclusive digital city,” said the DICT official.

Prior to the launching, Lamentillo joined the Association of Chief Executives (ACE) of Negros Occidental in a meeting where she stressed that local government units are vital partners in ensuring the success of ICT programs.

“What we all want is a better government that can efficiently provide the services that our citizens need and open opportunities for the growth of our communities and better life for our people,” she said.

The mayors of the province also expressed their support to ensure the success of the ongoing SIM registration.

“Information campaign on the SIM registration is now at the grassroots. I met with the Association of Chief Executives of Negros Occidental in the City of Victorias. The mayors committed to support the SIM registration by encouraging their constituents, providing support for assisted registrations, and cascading the information to barangays for wider reach and to ensure that we reach our kababayans in all areas,” said Lamentillo.
