Mother, daughter die due to suspected arson in QC

MANILA, Philippines — A mother who was said to be suffering from mental illness allegedly burned their own house intentionally in Quezon City on Thursday, which led to her and her daughter’s death.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the two were found dead on the second floor of their bedroom in Barangay Krus Na Ligas.

“Ang nangyari, mother and daughter ang namatay. Ang nagsunog ‘yung mother and allegedly, pinigilan niya yung anak niya [lumabas] kaya namatay silang dalawa,” Senior Fire Inspector 1 Rick Caranto told INQUIRER.net over the phone.

Asked about the possible motive of the mother, Caranto said: “Sabi ng mga kapitbahay, parang nagpapakita ng depression.”

(According to the neighbors, the mother was showing signs of depression.)

The fire reached the first alarm at around 2:29 a.m. and was extinguished at around 2:58 a.m., according to the BFP’s spot report.

BFP said the damage was pegged at P24,000.
