Mother, daughter die due to suspected arson in QC

MANILA, Philippines — A mother who was said to be suffering from mental illness allegedly burned their own house intentionally in Quezon City on Thursday, which led to her and her daughter’s death.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the two were found dead on the second floor of their bedroom in Barangay Krus Na Ligas.
“Ang nangyari, mother and daughter ang namatay. Ang nagsunog ‘yung mother and allegedly, pinigilan niya yung anak niya [lumabas] kaya namatay silang dalawa,” Senior Fire Inspector 1 Rick Caranto told INQUIRER.net over the phone.
(What happened is, those who died were mother and daughter. The mother intentionally burned the house and allegedly stopped her child from going out. That’s why both of them died.)
Asked about the possible motive of the mother, Caranto said: “Sabi ng mga kapitbahay, parang nagpapakita ng depression.”

Article continues after this advertisementThe fire reached the first alarm at around 2:29 a.m. and was extinguished at around 2:58 a.m., according to the BFP’s spot report.
BFP said the damage was pegged at P24,000.
