All Cebu Capitol employees will join the Run 2 Plant 4 GREENIN Philippines on Saturday, June 25 in Talisay City, southern Cebu.
Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia signed a memorandum mandating the Capitol employees to join the program by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI).
Participants will engage in either 8-K, 5-K, and 1-K run categories before planting native tree species in a five-hectare forestland in barangay Jaclupan, Talisay City, the memorandum circular states.
The Cebu Provincial Engineering Office coordinated with RAFI in transporting the 12,500 native tree seedlings from the RAFI native tree nursery in barangay Busay, Cebu City to Jaclupan, Talisay City and in preparing the planting sites.
All local government units will join the event.
The Run 2 Plant in Talisay City will be the central event. Other towns and cities will simultaneously hold a similar event in their localities.
The program targets to plant 100,000 native tree species all over Cebu on Saturday. The event is designed to promote the health of the people through running and planting trees.
GREENIN Philippines Program, which stands for Generation REdemption and Expansion of Natural resources INitiatives in the Philippines Program, seeks to develop, protect, enhance and co-manage denuded forestlands, brush lands and degraded residual natural forests.
