822 Negros Occidental evacuees return home
BACOLOD CITY — Evacuees in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, went home on Monday, Feb. 6, after the gunfight between communist rebels and government troops died down.
At least 283 families, composed of 822 individuals, evacuated to the Oringao covered court on Sunday afternoon due to the clash, according to Kabankalan City Mayor Benjie Miranda.
At least three rebels were killed in the fight.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Western Visayas distributed P1.4 million in relief assistance to the evacuees.
The office of Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (Negros Occidental, 6th District), the Kabankalan City government, and nongovernment agencies also assisted the evacuees.
