P1.48M ‘hot’ logs seized in Nueva Vizcaya town
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — Authorities seized on Monday P1.49 million worth of illegally cut and transported narra lumber in Santa Fe town in this province.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) personnel said truck driver Ronald Demate, 47, of Bulacan, was accosted at a checkpoint in Barangay Tactac.
Demate, who came from Apayao province, tried to escape, but was captured after police chased him.
The suspect failed to present transport documents and refused to reveal the owner of the lumber.
Demate’s truck was loaded with 2,975 board feet of narra flitches and impounded at the DENR office in the Cagayan Valley Product Monitoring Station in Aritao town, also in this province. INQ
