STUDENTS, faculty and staff of Foundation University (FU) in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental will plant trees along the Banica River on June 25 to commemorate Arbor Day.
Arbor Day is a special day in the Philippines that encourages tree planting and care.
At least 75 trees will be planted in areas along the river, said Dr. Aparicio Mequi, dean of the Graduate School and university coordinator for environment programs.
City administrator William Ablong provided 50 mahogany seedlings, while FU president Mira Sinco also prepared 25 seedlings of bauhinia, a flowering tree.
The Banica River, which passes behind the FU Main campus, was adopted by the university in its corporate social responsibility program a few years ago.
The university will celebrate its 62nd anniversary on July 4.
