Robbery suspect grabs cop’s gun, is shot dead

'Motorcycle thief' slain in shootout with Bulacan cops

MANILA, Philippines — A robbery suspect was shot and killed after allegedly grabbing a police officer’s gun inside a precinct in Quezon City, police said.

In a report, the Quezon City Police District identified the fatality as Jose Lemery Palmares Jr., 33, a resident of Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.

The report showed that prior to the incident, the suspect was arrested for robbing a bakery located in the same barangay.

While the suspect was under booking procedure inside the Police Community Precinct 1, he suddenly grabbed the firearm of Investigator Juderick Latao.

Witnessing the ensuing scuffle, Latao’s colleague, Police Maj. Jun Fortunato had no other recourse but to neutralize the suspect by shooting at him.

The suspect was brought to the nearest hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. Recovered from the scene was one fired cartridge case.
