Guard disarmed in North Bus Terminal

POLICE on Holy Week inspection of public terminals disarmed a security guard  in the North Bus Terminal  for carrying a shotgun with expired license.

Benjie Torres, a security guard of Pioneer Security Agency, was noticed because he was  not in proper uniform and lacked the required headgear.

When they checked him, they discovered that his service firearm didn’t have a valid license, said Supt. Rex Derilo, chief of Firearms, Explosives, Security Guards and Agencies Supervisory Section (Fesagss).

Police said they will summon the security agency to explain the lapse of their guard.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, who  led a field  inspection of terminals  yesterday, said close-circuit television (CCTV) security cameras in the North Bus Terminal were  insufficient.

Only four CCTV cameras were in the Mandaue City terminal compared to 10 in  the South Bus Terminal.

Garbo suggested upgrading the cameras with “zoom-in” capacity to help investigators identify perpetrators if a crime takes place.

Carmen Quijano, manager of the South Bus Terminal, welcomed Garbo’s suggestions and said she will bring them up with Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Overall, Garbo said he was satisfied with the security  in both terminals. / Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
