MANILA, Philippines — Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes, House senior citizens panel chair, is pushing for a comprehensive nutrition and wellness program specifically for senior citizens.
Ordanes filed on Thursday House Bill No. 7064, or the Comprehensive Senior Citizen Act, which will amend Republic Act No. 9994, or the 2018 Expanded Senior Citizen Act.
The bill is the lower chamber’s counterpart to Senate Bill No. 1799 filed by Sen. Francis Tolentino.
“Good nutrition is very essential in all age groups, most especially in the elderly … Unfortunately, our government has somehow been remiss in providing this comprehensive nutritional support for the elderly,” Ordanes said.
The bill will task the Department of Health, National Nutrition Council, and local governments to craft a comprehensive nutrition and wellness program for senior citizens.
