Bantayan Beach Games on

Triathletes, duathletes, swimmers, cyclists and even beach soccer players will converge on Bantayan Island today as the Bantayan Beach Games 2012 comes off wraps.

First up this afternoon is the off-road duathlon wherein participants will try to conquer three kilometers of running, 15km biking and another 2km run.

To be contested alongside the off-road duathlon is the Dua-Kids wherein kids aged 10-and-under up to 14 years old will negotiate 1.2km of running, 5km biking and end the race with another 1.2km run.

These two events are the two newest additions to the annual sporting event held on the island every Holy Week.

The Bantayan Island Nature Park & Resort where the race will start and end is also a new venue which has been tapped by the organizers for the first time this year.

Benjoe Gimenez of Sugbu Triathlon said the venue is being prepped for adventure races that are being mulled on the island.

To be held tomorrow morning is the cycling Individual Time Trial (ITT) and the open water swim in the afternoon. The ITT will cover  14km while the open water swim will cover 5km at the Sugar Beach Resort.

The beach run and the oceanman will be held on Saturday.

The 5km beach run will start at 6 a.m. while the oceanman will have 200m run and 400m swim to be done in four loops.

The Bantayan Beach Games will be capped by the third and final leg of the Summit Triathlon Team Championship Series on Sunday.

An exciting race is in the offing with just a point separating current leader Team Summit and Rueben Team.

Team Summit manned by Jose Merdino Lim, Kristian Cabahug, and Loveleinell Casidsid has 115 points after the 2nd leg in Siquijor while new entry Rueben Team comprised of Noy Jopson, Joseph Miller, Tyrone Tan and Rochelle Tan has 114 point despite missing the 1st leg.

Partnering Sugbu Triathlon in organizing the event is Sports Adventure Travel and Services.
