The Batangas provincial veterinarian office allays public fear after detecting a single case of bird flu in Ibaan town.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday said it is still conducting search operations for the 22-year old cadet who reportedly fell overboard the MV Aleson Con Carrier 14 several days ago.

The cadet, identified as Marnel Vincent Balaba of Misamis Occidental who worked as an engine cadet,  fell overboard in the vicinity of Calatagan, Batangas on Saturday.

Since Sunday, the PCG has launched the search and rescue operation for the victim using its air and water assets, to no avail.

“PCG Sub-Station Calatagan and BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) first launched their SAR operation on January 29 however, due to the bad weather [it] was terminated … On 30 January 2023, the team continued its operation but yielded negative results,” the PCG said in a statement.

“The PCG Aviation Force also conducted an aerial search, but also failed to locate the missing cadet,” it also said.
