CEBU CITY — Thousands troop to a satellite registration site inside a mall in Cebu City on Tuesday, Jan. 31, the last day of the voter registration.
Officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said there were over 1,600 people who went to the Robinsons Galleria Cebu on Tuesday.
Comelec Cebu City Assistant Megumi Tapia said the numbers exceeded the satellite registration’s 1,500 voter applicants on Monday.
When the Inquirer visited the registration site, hundreds were lining up and the crowd was spilling into the corridors of the mall outside of the rooms assigned for the actual registration.
Tapia said when the registration started last December 12, only a handful of people went to the site. They could not even fill the rooms assigned to them inside the mall.
Since the registration began on December 12 last year, Cebu City North District has 7,069 voter applicants which will bring the total number of voters to 399,665 for the district.
The Cebu City South District, on the other hand, recorded 7,317 new voter applicants which will bring its total number of voters to 339,178.
