DTI seizes P350,000 worth of unregulated products
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Monday said it seized more than P350,000 worth of uncertified sanitary wares such as water closets, urinals, and lavatories in its ongoing crackdown against the sale of unregulated and potentially unsafe products.
The DTI said agents from the Fair-Trade Enforcement Bureau seized 190 units of these uncertified sanitary wares and self-ballasted LED (light-emitting diode) lamps worth P352,775 during an operation in Manila on Jan. 20.
The operation targeted retail companies along Tomas Mapua Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila, and was led by Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo, who heads the DTI’s Consumer Protection Group.
The DTI said six companies were ordered to explain within 48 hours the reason for their noncompliance. Consumer products have to undergo and pass the DTI mandatory testing schemes, Castelo said.
