3 ranking NPA leaders arrested in GenSan raid

KORONADAL CITY — Police arrested three alleged ranking officials of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) in General Santos City on Sunday, January 29.

Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Socsksargen region, said Ruben Saluta, identified as the secretary of CPP-NPA’s National Propaganda Commission and former secretary of the NPA’s Panay Regional Party Committee (PRPC); his wife Presentacion, head of the Komiteng Rehiyonal Panay (KR- Panay); and Yvonne Losaria, leader of the Sentro-De-Gravidad, Guerrilla Front 35 of the NPA’s Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC), were arrested in a safe house at Phase 5, Doña Soledad, Barangay Labangal, General Santos City.

CIDG operatives served the arrest warrants for murder and rebellion charges against the suspects issued by local courts in Antique province.

Police claimed they recovered from the trio high powered firearms that included three M16 rifles, an M14 rifle, carbine, various ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, mobile phones, laptop computers and subversive documents.

According to the CIDG, Saluta has standing arrest warrants for several counts of murder while his wife is wanted by an Antique court for a rebellion case.

Losaria, on the other hand, has a standing arrest warrant for rebellion charges issued by a local court in Gen. Santos City.

The suspects are still undergoing interrogation at the CIDG headquarters in Gen. Santos City along with the firearms, explosives and ammunition. The trio did not resist arrest.
