MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or amihan will continue to bring lower temperatures and cloudy skies over massive parts of Luzon, especially in northern provinces, according to the state weather bureau.
Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday afternoon showed thick clouds coming from the direction of the northeast monsoon, covering a vast chunk of Luzon.
Pagasa said that rains might be felt over Cagayan Valley, Aurora and Quezon provinces, while the Bicol Region, Mimaropa area, and some parts of Northern Samar would feel the same effects due to the shear line east of the country.
Despite the possible rains over several parts of Luzon, Pagasa said that no tropical cyclone or low-pressure system is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the coming days.
Temperatures for Saturday over most of Luzon would still be relatively low, ranging from 19 to 27 degrees Celsius over Tuguegarao; 19 to 28 degrees in Laoag; 16 to 25 degrees in Baguio; 21 to 28 degrees in Tagaytay; 24 to 29 degrees in Legazpi, 25 to 28 degrees in Puerto Princesa, and 23 to 29 degrees over Metro Manila.
Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, are expected to have generally fairer weather than Luzon, with Tacloban and Cebu having temperatures of 24 to 30 degrees Celsius; Iloilo with 24 to 29 degrees; Cagayan de Oro with 23 to 30 degrees; Zamboanga with 25 to 31 degrees; and Davao with 24 to 31 degrees.
Due to the amihan, a gale warning remains raised over the entire seaboard of Luzon, stretching from Palawan to Mindoro Islands, Central Luzon, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, the Babuyan Islands, down to Bicol Region and the northern and eastern seas of Samar.
Fisherfolk and small boat operators are still advised not to sail in these areas as sea conditions may range from rough to very rough.
