MANILA, Philippines—An oil-spill incident occurred at a gasoline station in Casinglot village, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental Tuesday dawn, a report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
A personnel from Petron, while conducting transfer operations, did not notice that the valve going to the canal was slightly opened, consequently spilling the gasoline in a nearby mangrove area at about 3 a.m.
The valve was closed as soon as it was found, the report said.
Authorities cleaned up the area and recovered the spilled gasoline for about six hours.
Meanwhile, an inspection/apprehension report was issued to Petron-Tagoloan for the spilled gasoline and for failure to notify the authorities of the incident. The depot superintendent was ordered to appear before the IAR officer within 10 days.
