Lucena City now COVID-19-free; active cases in Quezon province drop to 14

Lucena City now COVID-19-free; active cases in Quezon province drop to 14

LUCENA CITY — This capital city of Quezon has obtained COVID-19-free status, while the number of active cases in Quezon province dropped to 14 as of Wednesday, Jan. 25.

In its latest bulletin, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) on Wednesday said the remaining COVID-19 patient in this city has recovered.

On March 24 last year, the city was COVID-19-free for a day. Since then, the number of active infections has steadily climbed and reached 41 on Aug. 28 but has declined and listed only one on Dec. 12.

However, the number of COVID-19 cases in the city rose again and reached 13 on Dec. 30. The figures continuously declined and returned to zero on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Quezon province dropped to 14 on Wednesday after listing 65 on Jan. 1, the latest IPHO data showed.

The data showed that 30 of the 41 municipalities in the province no longer have any recorded COVID-19 cases. Those previously infected in the localities have either recovered or died.

But out of the 30 towns, at least nine have only one active case each. Mauban topped the list with three active infections, followed by Tiaong with two.

This month, the IPHO already recorded 84 new COVID-19 cases and five fatalities.

The province logged 209 COVID-19 cases last month, 219 in November, and 398 in October, the IPHO data showed.
