MANILA, Philippines — The country’s farm sector sustained P1.13 billion in losses due to the combined effects of shear line and rains, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported.

In an advisory, the DA said these factors affected 52,259 farmers in the regions of Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.

It pegged the volume of production loss at 18,663 metric tons spanning 57,561 hectares of land.

“Affected commodities include rice, corn, cassava, high-value crops, and livestock and poultry. These values are subject to validation,” it added.
