MANILA, Philippines — Dismissed Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Metro Manila director Erwin Ogario surrendered to authorities on Wednesday, the police said.
The Philippine National Police in Eastern Visayas confirmed that Ogario — who was among the government officials that former president Rodrigo Duterte name-dropped for alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade — turned himself in before regional director Brig. Gen. Rommel Marbil in Palo, Leyte after he reportedly received death threats.
The arrest order on Ogario was issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 227 on Jan. 3, 2019, for allegedly violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Ogario was the chief of PDEA in the capital region when he was dismissed from his post in 2017 for grave misconduct and conduct “prejudicial to the best interest of the service.”
Ogario had purportedly facilitated the release of drug suspect Eddon Dalisay, who was arrested after claiming a parcel containing ecstasy tablets in 2015.
