MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area located off Davao is expected to bring overcast skies with scattered rain showers in most parts of the country on Tuesday, state meteorologists said.
The LPA was last spotted 280 kilometers southeast of Davao City, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Obet Badrina.
Badrina said the weather disturbance brings cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms to Palawan, the Bicol region, and the entire Visayas and Mindanao.
But the LPA has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, he added.
“Sa ngayon batay sa datos natin, mallit ang tiyansa na ito ay maging bagyo. Mas nakikita pa nga natin ang posibilidad na ito may malusaw sa mga susunod na araw,” Badrina said in a public weather forecast.
(For now based on our data, there is a small chance of it becoming a tropical cyclone and we even see the possibility of its dissipation in the coming days.)
“But again possible pa din magbago ‘yan kaya patuloy natin imo-monitor itong low pressure area na ito,” he added.
(But again it’s still possible that will change so we’ll continue to monitor this low pressure area.)
On the other hand, the northeast monsoon – locally called amihan – is anticipated to cause cloudy skies with rain in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, meanwhile, may see fair weather conditions despite possible partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains.
The northeast monsoon was also forecast to bring rough to very rough sea conditions with 2.8 to 4.5 meters of waves. Thus, Pagasa raised a gale warning over the seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Northern Quezon, Camarines Norte, and the Kalayaan Islands.
A gale warning was likewise hoisted over the northern coast of Camarines Sur, northern and eastern coast of Catanduanes, eastern coast of Albay, and eastern coast of Sorsogon.
“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” the state weather service said in an advisory.
